Back left coil spring! And the right rear wheel bearing! Fuck me right? Taking it to the shop tomorrow because I lack the proper facilities! This is going to hurt!

Apologies for the salty language, but I'm rather pissed.

No problem with the language :)

That actually happened to my car, but luckily they had quick struts available so the job was easy.

You can use this as a message to make it an auto cross car and drop some nice suspension components. And salvage isn't always bad when I was fixing my Durango up, I went to the yard and took as many parts as I could that I knew were problematic, replaced them with all the junkyard stuff and worked great until the head gasket blew up and a softball size rust hole developed on the tailgate right above the exhaust which tried to kill me with the exhaust fumes! But they can be good and cheap, but finding any type of 90's BMW would be hard because of the auto cross and rally factor. I'm sure you can grab a new part off rock auto or something

Russian and Jewish (separate blood lines), or Russian Jewish?

The Luckmeter ™ needs this information.

Russian, German, Russian-Jew, French. In order from most to least. I should probably get the DNA testing done to figure out what bizarre ass disease will kill me.

WELCOME TO THE LUCKMETER™

Russian-Jew is down the list, so that's good. Although Russian and German, the two front runners, carry a higher risk for alcoholism and, possibly, genocide.

Here's rock autos pricing for the rear coil http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carc…

They don't seem to be that bad, what will kill you is the labor, I've replaced a bunch of suspensions before if you have the confidence and a small set of tools you can tackle it fairly quickly and get away from the labor yourself. What would be easier is go to advanced auto, they sell a full rear suspension setup for like 120, it's all just bolt in, I think around three bolts total. I did my brother in laws which was super rusty and not taken care of at all in about a half hour with just a wrench set, some ratchets and a hammer.

Yeah my dad was adopted and just found out I'm part Austrian-Jew, I'm literally the sound of music. Also I finally figured out why I have so much guilt for everything I do, the catholic guilt is for what I have done, and the Jewish side for what I haven't.

The weather is going to be shitty until next week, so I'm paying for the labor. I would do this on my own, but, I can't.

Yeah it's been super shitty here too, that's when it pays to have friends with garages that have space heaters. I had to once do a brake change in winter with only the smallest space heater ever to keep me warm, it actually didn't do that bad of a job, but it still sucked

Well, to be fair, my springs on my E24s have been fine thus far. But I know of two cases with broken springs (one E30, one E46).

Were the suspensions modified?

I'll be pedantic.

You don't FIX springs. You REPLACE them. With NEW ones. This is an area where you don't skimp.

I'd put used springs right up there with used brake pads. NO.

I guess I was using the more generalized "These springs are problems; good luck fixing the problems" I would never suggest rewelding the springs _

No, although I have heard of H&R springs failing from time to time (usually after unwanted airborne activity). But the E46 is now lowered thanks to the necessary upgrade.
